University of Basel Tuition

University fees shall be paid in compliance with the official university regulations on fees.

Students studying at the university are to pay a fee of CHF 850 per course.Doctoral applicants are to pay a fee of CHF 350 per course.Students who take leave of absence are to pay a reduced fee of CHF 150 per semester according to § 25 of the Research Regulations.Medical students are to pay a discounted fee of CHF 150 per semester in their placement year.The fee for application or changing of direction and its administration shall be CHF 100.In the event of a late filing, an extra fee of CHF 150 shall be paid, if granted.Course auditors shall be paid a fee of CHF 60 for each credit hour (SWS).If this payment exceeds the students’ regularly paid fee, a flat fee of the same payment shall be charged.A fee of CHF 50 shall be paid for the registration of the semester during the grace period.A fee of CHF 100 shall be paid for admission for courses after admission.

University of Basel Ranking

Admission Requirements

Admission into bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral programs is granted in line with the admission regulations of the rectorate and guidance of the University. The application is done online by paying an application fee of CHF 100 and an additional fee of CHF 150 for a late application.

Undergraduate Program

Applicants with Swiss educational qualifications: there are 3 different categories of admissions; Category A:

Allows access to all bachelor’s programs.Allows access to all bachelor’s degree programs with the exception of medicine.Bachelor’s degree programs at each facility.

Applicants with foreign educational qualifications; Secondary School leaving certificate is only recognized if it corresponds to the Swiss Maturitat Certificate and if it’s the highest Secondary school-leaving certificate in the country of origin.

Masters Program

To be admitted into a master’s degree program, a bachelor’s degree with 180 points or its equivalent from a higher education institution acknowledged by the University of Basel and an English language proficiency test to ascertain the command of the language for foreign students that prefer English as a language of instruction. Doctoral Studies

Admission for doctoral studies requires a master’s degree from a higher education institution acknowledged by the University of Basel. International Students

The university sends acceptance letters to accepted applicants and is advised to schedule an appointment for the visa at the Swedish embassy or consulate in the country of origin, months before departure. Based on the duration of the course applied for, there are two types of student visas;

C visa- for short courses of up to 3 months.D visa – for courses longer than 3 months.

Language Requirements

The predominant language of teaching at the University of Basel is German and English. The Language of instruction in bachelor’s degree programs and some master’s programs is mainly German. German is also the main examination language for both written and oral exams. Bachelors students are required to obtain language skills at level C1 of the common. For the master’s program taught in English, sufficient proof of English language proficiency is required at levels C1 and B2. For level C1;
